MSc Real Estate Management

A university's Master of Real Estate Management program, which has long been accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), provides a professional-driven approach to managing real estate portfolios. Students learn how to use industry-standard software, use management skills, and accurately report findings. They deal with complex issues arising from live real estate activity, create industry-specific reports, and engage in community service. The teaching faculty consists of chartered surveyors, architects, civil engineers, economists, urban planners, attorneys, and environmentalists. Students attend guest lectures given by RICS professionals from companies such as Savilles, as well as local government or public sector organizations. Graduates with the requisite abilities can pursue a career in real estate management, including becoming a Chartered Surveyor or conducting research in the sector.

Entry Requirements

  • A good honours degree or equivalent in any discipline. Business Studies, Social Sciences, Humanities and Liberal Arts, Geography, Economics or Law are examples, but any applicant with demonstrable commitment to, enthusiasm for or experience in the field with a good standard of literacy will also be considered.
  • English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.0 (or equivalent) with no component score below 5.5.

Career Prospects

The real estate management course graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply their learning immediately. As a RICS-accredited professional, graduates are well-positioned for senior roles in the industry, having experience in producing industry-standard reports and building professional contacts through site visits and university events. The sector is experiencing a rebound from lockdown with government investment and a commitment to digital reinvention. Graduates have gone on to roles such as property development, planning permissions, valuation, building methods, project management, and consultancy. They have worked for companies like AECOM, Savillls, and Gleeds. Career planning is also provided by the course's Careers and Employability Centre, tutors, and student placements and employability centre. Support from the centre is available for up to five years after graduation. The course offers networking events, applied projects with companies like IBM, Boeing, and Hampshire County Council, 1-to-1 appointments, CV and cover letter advice, interview preparation and practice, workshops, recruitment events, and support for starting a business.
