This MSc Civil Engineering program aims to develop postgraduate-level skills in civil engineering, covering various phases of public works projects from planning to construction and management. Entry Requirements

  • A good honours degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject, or equivalent industrial and work experience.
  • English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.0 (or equivalent) with no component score below 5.5.

Course Details

Master's degrees may require more demands than undergraduate degrees, as students may have work or family responsibilities. The duration of the course depends on whether you study full-time or part-time, and whether you start in September or January. The course duration is 12 months (full-time) or 24 months (part-time) depending on the start date. Students can expect 12 hours of teaching time per week (6 hours part-time), with the aim to keep taught classes within two days of the week. Additionally, 12 hours of independent study per week (6 hours part-time) will be required.
Master's study is deeper and more specialized than undergraduate degrees, allowing students to focus on a topic that matters to them and their career. Independent study and research are more common, but teaching time will be mostly in-person and face-to-face. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, discussion groups, and independent learning strategies.
Assessment is conducted through examinations, coursework, projects, and dissertations. Students can test their skills and knowledge informally before undergoing assessments that count towards their final mark. Feedback on practice and formal assessments is available to help students improve in the future.
