Course Details
The Master's degree program at Portsmouth University aims to provide a comprehensive and specialized education for international students. The program consists of two years, one year at the university and one year gaining professional experience. In the first year, students will engage in timetabled teaching activities such as lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical classes, and workshops for around 12 hours a week. The rest of the time will be dedicated to independent study, such as research, reading, coursework, and project work. The second year involves gaining professional experience, with working hours varying depending on the employer and role. During the 12 months of the professional experience module, students will likely work 35-40 hours a week, including 7 hours of seminars/tutorials and work on their assessment. The Master's study is more specialized than an undergraduate degree, allowing students to focus on a specific area of interest and work closely with academics committed to the subject. Teaching methods include seminars, workshops, one-to-one and group tutorials, and academic skills development workshops. Teaching staff includes experienced experts in international business, international management, intercultural communication, professional communication, academic and language skills development, and research methods. Assessment will involve exams, case study analysis, oral presentations, report writing, written assessments, role plays/simulation, and dissertations. Students can test their skills and knowledge informally before undergoing assessments that count towards their final mark. Feedback on practice and formal assessments is available to help students improve in the future.
