Registered Nurse Child Degree Apprenticeship BSc Hons

This apprenticeship course offers students the chance to study while working in child healthcare services, developing essential skills and confidence to care for children and their families. The course follows an apprenticeship model, with one day of work for the host organization and 30 hours of placement in clinical practice or university. Once qualified, students can apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and work as a Registered Nurse for Children. The course is designed to be progressively demanding, with in-classroom and hands-on learning opportunities. Clinical practice opportunities include children's wards, hospitals, accident and emergency departments, neonatal intensive care, and community settings. The University's new Daphne Steele Building will open in 2024, providing specialist clinical teaching facilities and research facilities.

Entry Requirements

Career Prospects

Working in local and national hospitals, community centers, and children's hospices are all possible employment options. Child nurses also work in newborn and paediatric critical care units, community nursing teams, and regional children's specialist centres.

Following qualification, there is a wide range of professional development opportunities available, which may lead to positions as a health visitor, school nurse, or nurse specialty post.
