Paramedic Science Degree Apprenticeship BSc Hons

This apprenticeship course enables Associate Ambulance Practitioners to become paramedics, allowing them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to practice effectively in a complex environment. The course is open to existing Yorkshire Ambulance Service staff who have completed the Associate Ambulance Practitioner (AAP) programme. Successful completion of the course will enable applicants to apply to the Health and Care Professions Council for paramedic registration. The course is split between work-based learning and off-the-job theoretical training at the University. The course aims to develop skilled clinical professionals, resourceful clinicians, and reflective practitioners committed to continuous professional development. The course is taught by an experienced team of paramedic lecturers and practitioners, and will benefit from the University's new Daphne Steele Building in 2024.

Entry Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of accident and emergency experience.
  • Level 2 qualification in Functional skills in Maths and English.
  • Compliant with all trust Statutory and Mandatory training.
  • All application information must be verifiable.
  • Joint selection between University of Huddersfield and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
  • Offers subject to Occupational Health clearance, employer references, and satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) completed within 6 months.
  • Physical demands of placement settings and understanding of appropriate moving and handling techniques required.
  • Disability should not be a barrier to becoming a health and care professional.
  • If first language is not English, meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.5 overall with no element lower than 6.0, or equivalent.

Career Prospects

The course offers learners the chance to gain a BSc(Hons) in Paramedic Science and apply for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) register. The course covers various roles in clinical, management, education, and research, providing a gateway to the profession and future opportunities within the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
