Mechanical Engineering Design with Placement MSc

This course is specifically aimed at International students, supporting those wishing to gain practical work based experiential learning. Together with studying your chosen course we are offering an additional 6 month placement opportunity, making the course 18 months in length. This allows students with limited experience to put into practice the skills and techniques developed throughout the Master’s degree.

This course has been designed to enhance your career opportunities as an engineering designer and aims to advance you to positions in design management.

It offers a balanced suite of modules that will explore technical deepening, technical broadening and management. In addition, you will undertake a substantial project that will provide you with a good basis and a framework for your future career development.

Our advanced technical modules cover areas such as Advanced Static Analysis, Advanced Dynamic Analysis and Aerodynamics and Air Management to ensure you gain a deeper understanding of these subjects.You will be equipped to undertake non-linear solid, complex dynamic and advanced computational fluid analysis.

Further non-technical modules such as Project Management and New Product Development will equip you to progress to management roles soon after graduation. The project will allow you to develop your technical knowledge at the same time as utilizing your project management skills

Entry Requirements

  • An Honours degree (2:1 or above) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Systems, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or a closely related science subject area or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • You are also encouraged to apply if you have other qualifications and/or experience and can demonstrate that you are equipped with knowledge and skills equivalent to Honours degree level. Knowledge of CAD software a plus.
  • IELTS 7.0 overall with no element lower than 6.5, or equivalent will be considered acceptable.

Career Prospects

Previous graduates from courses in this subject area have gone on to work in a variety of roles such as mechanical design engineering, engine air specialist – technical specialist and line trial engineer in organisations including PTG – Holroyd Ltd, including Atkins Ltd, Cummins Turbo Technologies Ltd and Optimas Solutions
