Acting and Performance MA

This course enables you to pursue acting and performance at an advanced level. Our expertise in psychophysical training and performance will give you the opportunity to extend your performance skills through both ensemble training and solo performance practice. Learning with working professionals and academic experts, you will be grow and develop as an independent artist, practitioner and thinker.

You’ll also be able to learn from experts in embodied practice research, exploring methods of inquiry and documentation to support your professional or academic career.

The unique structure of this course gives you an opportunity for intensive practical learning based in Huddersfield for seven weeks, followed by collaborative and independent inquiry which you complete as a distance learner.

Staff teaching on the MA Acting and Performance course are themselves active as artists and regularly collaborate with organisations and professionals in the creative arts. Our tutors are experienced and highly regarded in their fields.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for this course are normally:

  • A good honours degree from a recognised University, or comparable institution, or qualifications regarded by the University as equivalent.
  • Other qualifications or experience that demonstrate you possess the appropriate knowledge and skills at honours degree standard may be accepted on a case by case basis, especially given the importance of artistic and professional experience in this course.
  • If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in reading and writing and no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent will be considered acceptable

On graduating from this course you will have developed advanced skills required in a range of careers for professional performers, including performance for both live and screen contexts and in both solo and ensemble productions. The course also prepares you for a career in which performance plays a part, such as portfolio careers that might include performing, teaching, workshop practice, and other activities. You will also be prepared to go on to further scholarly work and advanced research.
