Should states have the authority to deprive citizens of their citizenship? How do we avoid ecological disasters? What are the implications of algorithms for democracy? What about the craze for authoritarian leaders and their followers? Join us as we study and debate. A dynamic and interdisciplinary course that examines power and (in)equality, justice, and conflict in a world shaped by economic, pandemic, and environmental crises.
We cover topics such as populism, leadership, diplomacy, race, gender, identity, and environmental activism.
Participate in staff-student-run projects to gain hands-on experience as political pundits, experts, fact-checkers, journalists, and researchers.
In a 4-week or 30-week placement, you can network with industry professionals and gain valuable experience for your CV.
Participate in a political community by attending regular events, film screenings, discussions, and debates organized and led by the BU Politics Society.

Foundation Year: For UK students who do not meet the entry requirements for the degree course, we offer a Foundation Year option. This extra year of study will provide you with a solid foundation in the media and communication skills required for this course, as well as boost your confidence, knowledge, and skills for further study. You will progress to the full degree after successfully completing the Foundation Year.

Study Politics at BU and you will understand all aspects of politics, from the very global to the grassroots. You will gain skills to allow you to be reflective, critical, and strategic, ready to take on the challenges of a career in frontline politics, in research and advisory roles for charities, parties or activist groups, in diplomacy and global political affairs within governments, global organizations or for any organization seeking politically literate and media-savvy employees.  

Entry Requirements

  • 104-120 UCAS tariff points from 2 A-levels or equivalent. BTEC Extended Diploma: DMM.

  • Foundation year:

     

    48-72 UCAS tariff points.

  • If English is not your first language you'll need IELTS (Academic) 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component or equivalent.

Politics is constantly changing, and in today's hyper-mediated world, there is an even greater need for people who understand the role of the media in politics.
90% of our students were employed or enrolled in further education within fifteen months of completing the course.
This course will prepare you for a variety of roles in this fascinating field, such as local and national government, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, lobbying groups, and emerging political industries such as soft diplomacy and nation branding.
