BA(Hons) Fashion Textiles teaches you about Fashion and Textile design: from designing and manufacturing fabrics through to garments and fashion related products.

Discover the disciplines of fashion and textiles through the design and construction of garments, accessories and other fashion products. Translate your ideas from 2D to 3D through drawing and building your pattern cutting skills throughout the course. Explore and develop concepts using technologies including digital print, digital embroidery and smart textiles.

Tailor your degree to your creative strengths by specialising in fashion design, textile design or fashion textile futures, allowing you to develop a unique pathway and identify a career path that suits your ambitions.

Learn from visiting industry experts in the studios. Work closely with industry partners on live briefs and competitions, to apply your learning and gain real-world experience.

UWE Bristol is a member of the prestigious British Fashion Council (BFC) Colleges Council and will showcase in 2021 as part of Graduate Fashion Week. The BFC Colleges Council organises an annual programme of Industry led events and competitions to offer you opportunities to engage with industry.

Engage with research as you develop your design practice.

Professional practice is key to this course and there are placement and project opportunities every year to help you develop your professional skills. All students have the opportunity to undertake a year out in industry as part of the course.

Showcase and sell your design work at high profile national and international events such as New Designers and Premier Vision in Paris, the world's largest fashion textile trade show.

Our City Campus is a creative powerhouse. It spans Bristol and is made up of Bower Ashton and renowned contemporary arts centres Spike Island, Arnolfini and Watershed.

Focusing on the avenues that most interest you, through your modules and assessments, you'll explore different career paths and graduate with the confidence and skills to succeed.

Entry Requirements

  • Tariff points: 112
  • GCSE: Grade C/4 in English Literature or Language, or equivalent. We do not accept Level 2 Key Skills, Functional Skills or Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy as suitable alternatives to GCSEs.
  • English Language Requirement: International and EU applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with 5.5 in each component.
  • A-level subjects: No specific subjects required.

Career Prospects

Tailoring what and how you study, you can shape the course towards your chosen career path.

Our graduates work across all areas of the fashion industry, taking on roles as textile, fashion and fashion product designers, product developers, pattern cutters and stylists, garment technologists and fashion buyers.

Alternatively, you could choose a career in manufacturing, consultancy or decide to set up your own business.

Course Details

If you study on the four year (sandwich) course, you'll spend a year away from the University on a work placement after Year two.

You'll complete a placement learning module.

Professional Practice and Work Experience in Fashion Textiles 1
Critical Perspectives.

Year 2

Developing Practice in Fashion Textiles 1
Creative Analysis.

Two optional modules from:
Developing Practice in Fashion Textiles 2 or International Exchange*
Professional Practice and Work Experience in Fashion Textiles 2 or Collaborate.

Placement year

Final Year

Preparation for Extended Study in Fashion Textiles
Professional Practice and Work Experience in Fashion Textiles 3.

One optional module from
