Games Art BA (Hons)

With our Games Art degree, you will be able to create everything from environments and characters to props, vehicles, and weapons. If you want to create the incredible visual elements seen in games, our Games Art degree will prepare you for a career as a 3D artist.
You will learn 3D modeling, digital sculpting, texturing, observational drawing, and character design throughout the course. As you apply the fundamentals of Art and Design theory to your coursework and skill development, you will also learn how to art direct your work. Creating your own artistic workflow for your career portfolio is strongly encouraged and supported during your studies.

Entry Requirements

112-120 UCAS Tariff points:

  • GCE A Levels - grades BBC or equivalent
  • Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma - grade DMM
  • Access to HE Diploma - Pass Access with a minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points. Applicants to Staff who are taking the Access to HE Diploma receive a reduced tariff point offer as part of our access and participation plan activity
  • UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma - grade of Merit overall
  • OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - grade DMM
  • T Levels - Eligible T Level applications will be asked to achieve a minimum overall grade of P (A*-C) or Higher Pass as a condition of the offer

Career Prospects

Our previous graduates have achieved global success, landing jobs in game studios all over the world. Before moving to Avalanche Studios in New York, one graduate worked as a Lead Character Artist at Naughty Dog on The Last of Us. Playground Games, Codemasters, Dovetail Games, and Sumo Digital also have artists.

Course Details

The fundamentals of 3D modeling and texturing for use in the Unreal Engine, a real-time game engine, will be taught to you during your first year. Through life drawing and fundamental studies, you will learn the fundamentals of art and design, art direction, visual art theories, and you will develop an understanding of shape, form, volume, and anatomy. While learning the technical aspects of building and texturing 3D models for real-time video games, you will develop your fundamental artistic skills.
As a games artist for a group game development project in the second year, you will gain knowledge of game production. Additionally, you can customize the course to fit your future professional goals by choosing from a variety of pathway modules and specializations.
