Our Computer Games Design degree delves into the creative and technical aspects of game production, preparing you to develop, produce, and publish game titles.
This course is approved by the industry games body TIGA and will prepare you to work as a 3D artist, animator, or game designer. We collaborate closely with industry partners to keep course content relevant, providing our students with excellent networking opportunities in the games industry.
Our facilities include a high-tech Vicon Motion Capture Studio, a Games Centre, hundreds of PCs, and game development opportunities with Sony, Vive, Oculus, and others.

- GCE A Levels - grades BBC or equivalent
- Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma - grade DMM
- Access to HE Diploma - Pass Access with a minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points. Applicants to Staffs who are taking the Access to HE Diploma receive a reduced tariff point offer as part of our access and participation plan activity
- UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma - grade of Merit overall
- OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - grade DMM

Graduates of our Computer Games Design program are in high demand around the world, working as game designers, 3D artists, 3D animators, level designers, and technical artists. Our graduates have gone on to work for companies like Ubisoft as level designers on games like The Division, and several of our recent graduates have worked on Grand Theft Auto V and other upcoming Rockstar North titles.
Course Details
Year 1 will teach you about level development pipelines as well as game mechanic design and implementation. You'll learn 3D modeling techniques and gain an understanding of 3D game engines.
As a junior member of a development team in your second year, you will work on a group project. You'll start to specialize your skillset by taking modules in game design, game art, character animation, and game engines.
In your third year, you will be promoted to senior member of the collaborative development team. You'll round out your skill set with advanced options in game design, advanced 3D modeling, cinematic animation, and AI scripting.
Representatives from game companies visit the University for development and training, giving you numerous opportunities to network with industry professionals.
