Social workers work closely with other organizations to support and protect children and adults from harm and to effect personal and social change. A high percentage of Social Work students from the University of Chester gain employment with local authorities upon completion of the course and registration with HCPC.

Entry Requirements

  • 2:1 (or above) honours degree in any subject.
  • Grade C/4 in GSCE English Language. We will also consider nationally recognised equivalent qualifications.
  • IT competence.
  • A satisfactory DBS and occupational health check.

Career Prospects

Social work is a diverse profession with numerous employment opportunities. Most MA graduates secure local authority social worker positions, while some work in the PVI sector or pursue doctorate studies. The University's Careers and Employability service offers employability-enhancing experiences through the curriculum, employer contact, tailored group sessions, and individual information. The service is inclusive, impartial, welcoming, informed, and tailored to personal goals and aspirations, enabling students to develop as individuals and contribute to their communities. It provides access to part-time jobs, extra-curricular workshops, and practical assistance with career planning, including CVs, applications, and mock interviews.
Group sessions on career planning are also provided within each course. Students and graduates can access these services free of charge for up to two years after graduating.

Course Details
