Secondary School Direct (Religious Education) PGCE with QTS

In conjunction with Secondary Lead School partners, the University of Chester offers Religious Education (11-16 with sixth form enhancement ) as a subject specialism leading to the award of PGCE with QTS.

Teaching is an extremely rewarding and challenging career. Our course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, understanding, and skills that you need to be an outstanding teacher.

We aim to nurture teachers passionate about developing their own and their pupils' learning.

Please note, the Application deadline for International applicants is 5th June 2023. Any applications received after this date may not be considered for the September 2023 intake due to Application, CAS, and Visa processing time requirements.

Why study this course with us?

The Religious Education course has a strong emphasis on cultural awareness and trainees will work closely with other trainees at several points during the year to enhance this awareness. The University has strong links with the local Development Education Centre.

Religious Education trainees will gain experience in schools within the area, enriching their practice and subject knowledge, and developing knowledge and understanding for their future careers.

The course is designed to ensure you are confident in all basic national curriculum requirements.

• have GCSE grade C/grade 4 in English Language and Maths.

• IELTS: Overall 7.0 (no less than 5.5 in each band)

• For those who do not have IELTS or an acceptable in-country English language qualification, the University of Chester has developed its own online English language test which applicants can take for just £50.

The University of Chester offers an award-winning Careers and Employability service that provides various employability-enhancing experiences through the curriculum, employer contact, tailored group sessions, individual information, advice, and guidance. The service is inclusive, impartial, welcoming, informed, and tailored to personal goals and aspirations. It aims to help students plan their future, make the most of their time at the University, and enhance their employability. Services include part-time jobs, extra-curricular workshops, and practical one-to-one help with career planning, CVs, applications, and mock interviews. Group sessions on career planning are also provided within each course. Students and graduates can use these services free of charge for up to two years after graduation.
