In conjunction with Secondary Lead School partners, the University of Chester offers Physics (11-16 with sixth form enhancement ) as a subject specialism leading to the award of PGCE with QTS.

Why study this course with us?

The course allows you to teach Secondary Science with a focus on your specialism. You will develop your subject knowledge, practical skills, and pedagogy in all aspects of science at KS3, whilst also developing your expertise in your preferred discipline of Physics at KS4 and KS5 depending on your degree and experience.

Science enhanced with Physics

Applicants need a good honors degree with a significant proportion in Physics is ideal. There is a wide range of degrees which would give a suitable level of subject knowledge. However, enthusiastic scientists with a reasonable knowledge of Physics can follow a booster/enhancement course before starting the PGCE. These last from 10 days to six months but applications need a recommendation from a PGCE tutor. The University of Chester offers 10-day and 20-day booster courses.

Entry Requirements

  • hold or be expected to gain a minimum 2:2 honors degree (preferred 2:1)

  • have GCSE grade C/grade 4 in English Language and Maths.

  • IELTS: Overall 7.0 (no less than 5.5 in each band)

  • For those who do not have IELTS or an acceptable in-country English language qualification, the University of Chester has developed its own online English language test which applicants can take for just £50.

The course aims to provide high-quality education and training, offering a critical understanding of pedagogy, assessment, curriculum, knowledge of specialist age phases and subjects, and knowledge of professional issues like behavior management and inclusive practice. It also offers enrichment opportunities and 120 days of school-based learning in at least two schools.
