The School of Psychology at Chester offers degrees accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). The degree structure will allow you to study a wide range of areas of Psychology alongside the core modules at all levels of your degree. There are also options for study overseas.

If you are interested in a professional career in psychology, there are specialist routes through the course where you can take relevant elective modules at each level.

As well as allowing you to study a broad range of optional modules at all levels alongside the core areas required for British Psychological Society accreditation, a Psychology degree from Chester will equip you with a broad range of employability skills, including literacy, numeracy, critical appraisal, data handling, communication, and logical problem-solving skills.

We also offer an optional further year of study abroad that you take between your second and third years of study. As this is an additional year, this means you can use this as an opportunity to pursue areas of study of your choice.

You can join our studentled Psychology society which hosts a range of social and academic events. In the past, students have interrogated staff and organised Freud themed fancy dress parties.

If you are a mature student (21 or over) and have been out of education for a while or do not have qualifications at Level 3 (equivalent to A Levels), then we can consider you and our Foundation Year will help you to develop the skills and knowledge you will need to succeed in your chosen degree.

The University of Chester has an award-winning Careers and Employability service which provides a variety of employability-enhancing experiences, such as through the curriculum, employer contact, tailored group sessions, individual information, advice and guidance. The service aims to deliver a service which is inclusive, impartial, welcoming, informed and tailored to individual goals and aspirations. It provides access to part-time jobs, extra-curricular employability-enhancing workshops and practical one-to-one help with career planning, including help with CVs, applications and mock interviews. Students and graduates of the University can use our services free of charge for up to two years after graduating.

Course Details

The curriculum on this course is subject to change from time to time due to curriculum enhancement, staff changes, student numbers, improvements in technology, changes to placements or regulatory or external body requirements. In Year 1, students will focus on key skills and choose three optional modules. In Year 2, students will study areas of the BPS Psychology curriculum in more depth and take two optional modules. In Year 3, students will cover further areas of the BPS curriculum and conduct independent research, alongside two optional modules.
