This course embraces the future, and you will be encouraged to explore rapidly developing design processes in response to new materials and technologies. Through industry-based projects you will consider the ecological, social and economic concerns of today and propose solutions that enable you to make a difference. Product Design at Chester is a hands-on experience with a high level of one-to-one contact time and technical support.

Graduates from the Product Design programme are equipped to work in a variety of career paths as product design is required in a wide range of manufacturing industries. There are specific product design agencies throughout the UK but most importantly any company bringing new ideas into development will require a product designer’s skills in their team.

Course Details

  • Year 1 will elevate your essential design skills in sketching, prototyping and modelling using both digital and handmade techniques, whilst building your understanding of product design in context with the wider world.
  • Year 2 benefits from our strong industry connections to provide technical projects. You will learn about materials through experimentation, complex CAD modelling and the business of design.
  • Year 3 is built around your career pathway and culminates in a future-focused, blue sky project to address a societal challenge and finally an independent major project supported by external businesses.
