The government is planning changes to the transition period for teachers entering the profession from one year to two years. This will be introduced nationally from September 2021 but will operate in some areas of the country (e.g. the North East, Greater Manchester, and South and West Yorkshire) from September 2020. Following the achievement of QTS, therefore, all of you entering into a job as an Early Career Teacher (ECT) from September 2021, or in the aforementioned regions from 2020, will be entitled to a 2-year package of on-going training and support as an ECT. These entitlements are enshrined in the recently published Early Career Framework and the government has promised additional funding and mentoring support for new entrants to the profession who are entitled to this 2-year ECT programme. As a university committed to the on-going training and professional development of new teachers, we are aligning our new Level 7 Masters programs to the Early Career Framework and would be keen to continue to support schools and ECTs in the next phases of their careers.
