The MSc Pre-registration Nursing allows you to gain a professional nurse qualification and register with the NMC.

This MSc allows you to gain a professional nurse qualification and register with the NMC. The course provides you with the skills and knowledge to provide person-centred compassionate care and is an exciting opportunity for graduates to undertake a professional qualification as an Adult Nurse whilst studying for a Master’s degree.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants

     

    should normally possess

     

    an honours degree (minimum 2:1) in a biological/behavioural/ecological science (e.g. animal behaviour, conservation biology, zoology) including components of experimental design and statistical analysis. 

  • 6.5 (Min 5.5 in each sub-skill)

  • For those who do not have IELTS or an acceptable in-country English language qualification, the University of Chester has developed its own

     

    online English language test which applicants can take for just £50.

Career Prospects

This course prepares students to become registered nurses in Adult Nursing and register with the NMC, an internationally recognized regulator. They can work in various healthcare settings as a Band 5 nurse. The University's Careers and Employability service offers various employability-enhancing experiences, including curriculum, employer contact, tailored group sessions, and individual information. The service is inclusive, impartial, welcoming, and tailored to individual goals, enabling students to develop and contribute to their community. It provides access to part-time jobs, extra-curricular workshops, and practical career planning assistance, including CVs, applications, and mock interviews. Group sessions on career planning are also provided within each course, and students and graduates can use these services free of charge for up to two years after graduation.

Course Details

Learning takes place in both university and clinical practice, using lectures, seminars, simulations, tutorials, and technology-enhanced learning. Clinical practice involves 50% of learning, with placements to meet NMC proficiencies. Assessments measure NMC proficiencies, while examinations and coursework assess theory. Work-based learning offers a three-week negotiated practice experience, allowing students to explore global healthcare in Africa and Asia.

Year 1 explores the requirements to become a 21st Century nurse, developing your skills and knowledge of field and generic nursing.

Year 2 develops your leadership and supervision skills, focusing on your chosen field of nursing (Adult) and exploring complex care.
