Nutrition and Exercise Science BSc (Hons)

Our course will offer you an advanced understanding of exercise, nutrition, health and disease. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in ongoing research and to go on placement with our local partners. If you prefer, you can set up a placement of your choice, with the help of our designated Work Based Learning Unit.

GCE A Level

 

112 UCAS points from GCE A Levels or equivalent. Typical offer - BCC/BBC.

The Department requires the following subjects as essential for entry:

Biology OR Chemistry

BTEC

BTEC Extended Diploma (Applied Science): DMM.

BTEC Diploma (Applied Science): D*D*

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS Academic: Undergraduate: 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in any band)
  • Postgraduate: 6.5 (no less than 5.5 in any band)

Career paths following graduation may include roles within Health Screening, Health Promotion, Weight Management, Exercise Rehabilitation, Exercise Prescription, Sports Nutrition and Development, and the food industry.

Diverse opportunities include but not are limited to: Health and Wellbeing Physiologist; Active Schools Coordinator; Active Aging Coordinator; Sports Nutrition Product Development; Nutrition Advisor; Sports Nutrition; Health and Wellbeing Advisor; postgraduate study in the area of Exercise Rehabilitation, Sports Nutrition, Dietetics, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, MRes or PhD.

Course Details

  • Year 1 introduces core biological sciences which underpin health. These include anatomy, physiology, biology and biochemistry.
  • Year 2 encompasses exercise assessment and prescription, as well as human nutrition and nutritional assessment. You will also undertake a placement.
  • Year 3 will consolidate your knowledge, applying this in the context of disease prevention and management. You will learn about how exercise prescription differs for certain clinical populations and you will also complete a research dissertation.
