Deepen and extend your own professional and creative practice, developing key research skills in relation to current bodies of knowledge in dance.

This unique course offers you the opportunity to extend and develop your own creative dance practice by exploring and studying current bodies of knowledge and practice. Through a modular design you are able to build a portfolio of experience by pushing your creative boundaries as a performer, choreographer or educator, stepping into new and exciting territories in the field of dance.

Working alongside our professional artists and researchers throughout your studies gives you an excellent opportunity to be inspired in building and expanding your own skills and knowledge.

Furthermore, we have a range of excellent dance and rehearsal studios, performance spaces, IT facilities, and learning resources here at Creative Campus, Kingsway. These resources also include: stage lighting, sound, video and audio equipment and editing suites. We also have our excellent Seaborne Library on our Exton Park (Parkgate Road) site, not far from Creative Campus, Kingsway.

Entry Requirements

  • Students are required to have a 2:2 Honours degree, or equivalent in any discipline. 

  • 6.5 (Min 5.5 in each sub-skill)

Group sessions on career planning are also provided within each course, and students and graduates can use these services free of charge for up to two years after graduation.

Course Details

The curriculum for this course consists of modules that focus on developing skills and knowledge in creative dance-making practices. These modules explore practical, scholarly, and theoretical frameworks relevant to professional dance practice. Other areas of study include research methods in the arts context and documentation of dance practice using various approaches and technological platforms. In the final phase of the MA, students will undertake either a practical research project, leading to a substantial piece of work, or a written research dissertation. This learning and professional development will empower them to take artistic leadership with academic authority.
