This IBMS-accredited course enables you to gain an in-depth understanding of human health and disease, in addition to developing essential laboratory skills needed to become an employable Biomedical Scientist or researcher.

 

The Biomedical Science degree is designed for those wishing to gain employment as biomedical scientists and clinical scientists in the NHS, or those wishing to pursue scientific research within academia, industry, or the healthcare sector.

As such, it leads to a professionally recognized qualification, being externally accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).

Human Nutrition – A level in Biology or Chemistry Grade D and GCSE grade C/4 English and Maths

Forensic Psychology – GCSE Grade C/4 in Maths. GCSE grade C/4 or above in English Language or Literature is also required

Other vocational qualifications at Level 3 will also be considered, such as NVQs.

If you are a mature student (21 or over) and have been out of education for a while or do not have experience or qualifications at Level 3 (equivalent to A Levels), then our Foundation Year courses will help you to develop the skills and knowledge you will need to succeed in your chosen degree.

Course Details

The modules given above are the latest example of the curriculum available on this course. In Year 1, students will gain an understanding of concepts such as cell biology, microbiology, genetics, physiology and biochemistry. In Year 2, they will gain core knowledge and competency within a lab environment. In Year 3, they will enhance laboratory and research skills while gaining a deeper understanding of pathological processes and diagnostic approaches. During their dissertation project, students will be able to specialise and focus on a specific area of interest within Biomedical Science.
