The Adult Nursing degree will prepare you to become a registered adult nurse and you will learn how to assess, plan and evaluate the needs of the patient with complex acute and long-term illness, promote health and wellbeing, and communicate effectively with professional colleagues and service users. You will learn to become an adaptable, flexible practitioner who will be able to lead care, supervise others and work in a demanding and rapidly changing environment.

The course is delivered by experienced registered nurses who have expertise in both teaching and research and a variety of clinical specialities, including all four fields of nursing, including district nursing, health visiting, medical, surgery and critical and intensive care. We work closely with local acute and community providers to ensure that the course remains contemporary.

We also work in partnership with a wide range of Trusts which enables us to provide placements covering a large geographical area that includes Wirral, Warrington, Cheshire, Crewe and Shropshire.

Career Prospects

The curriculum for this course is updated with new modules and structures. The first year covers a broad range of topics and key issues for zoologists. In the second year, students focus on applied skills and may have opportunities to work overseas or with external organizations. In the third year, students explore their interests in zoology and complete an independent research project. The curriculum is subject to change due to curriculum enhancement, staff changes, student numbers, technology improvements, and regulatory requirements.

Course Details

The Nursing Foundation year focuses on the theoretical aspects of health and nursing, examining key concepts and developing academic and research skills for success in a nursing degree. The curriculum includes modules at Gateway House Chester, Marriss House Birkenhead, and Warrington Campus, as well as at the Faculty of Health and Social Care sites. In Year 1, students apply theory to practice in Adult Nursing, developing key skills in anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. Year 2 focuses on coordinating and leading care, while Year 3 focuses on advancing leadership and clinical skills in Adult Nursing and consolidating understanding in other nursing fields.
