This degree in Graphic Design allows you to work cross-media and explore the subject from a number of critical perspectives, challenging the different roles graphic designers can take. We value individualism and encourage concept-driven work, showing a clear understanding of design problems as well as the production of visual languages.


Entry Requirements

Students will be expected to have five GCSEs (grade C/level 4 or above) or equivalent (including English), and hold at least one of the below or equivalent UK/international qualifications.

Qualifications accepted:

  • Two A levels, grade C or above
  • Four AS levels, grade C or above
  • Two vocational A levels, grade C or above
  • Level three Foundation Diploma or National Diploma
  • Advanced Diploma, grade C or above
  • International Baccalaureate, 24 points or above

Selection criteria:

Students should ideally have a background in art, creative media or design. Applicants are expected to submit a portfolio of work which shows a range of their skills and demonstrates why they would be a good fit for the course.

We may also consider a combination of portfolio and academic qualifications and take into consideration progress made during studies and/or relevant work experience.

IELTS:

Academic 5.5 overall and a minimum of 5.5 in each component: reading, writing, speaking, listening.


Career Prospects

You will graduate with strong concept skills and technical expertise. Graduates work in areas such as typography, editorial design, packaging, information design, wayfinding, exhibition design, UX/UI, art direction and design strategy.

Course Details

Year 1

Students will build fundamental skills in contemporary graphic design tools, typography, information design, creative coding and design for promotion.

We encourage students to start thinking about their contextual studies research throughout this year.

Year 2

Students will gain advanced skills in the graphic design process, developing experimental approaches and techniques.

We set briefs that encourage students to collaborate with others and which help them to further their contextual understanding of the industry and graphic design.

Year 3

Students will bring together their work in an industry ready portfolio and will be encouraged to enter external competitions and festivals. They will also undertake a self-directed major graphic design project for exhibition at the degree show.We ask them to show their contextual studies research and thinking in a long form dissertation.
