MSC CYBER SECURITY (WITH ADVANCED PRACTICE)

The demand for skilled security professionals is increasing due to the rise in high-profile cybersecurity incidents. Northumbria University's MSc Cyber Security program offers a critical understanding of information governance, assurance, and technology risk management practices. The program covers topics such as Information Governance and Security, Information Assurance and Risk Management, Wireless Networks and Security, Network Security, and Ethical Hacking for Cyber Security. Students will develop research and project management skills to support their preparation for their MSc project.

The program is available part-time or as an MSc Cyber Security with Advanced Practice, which includes an internship, consultancy project, or research project. Graduates of the MSc Cyber Security program will demonstrate complex knowledge and skills, deal with complex issues creatively and systematically, work individually and as a team, communicate balanced judgments effectively, critically understand computing systems in relation to cyber security issues, act professionally and ethically, and meet the educational requirements of the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT for professional membership.

Teaching and assessment are delivered through tutorials, lectures, and practicals, with students engaging in independent study for around 29 hours per week. Technology-enhanced learning is embedded throughout the course, and weekly academic support sessions are provided. A guidance tutor is assigned at induction.

Graduates from the program can work in various IT industry careers or progress to academic or research-orientated roles. The Advanced Practice stage of the program offers a valuable opportunity to secure a work placement or research placement, enhancing employability and developing cyber skills.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum 2:2 (second class) honours degree or equivalent from a recognised university in a related subject (IT/Computer Science/related field)
  • IELTS 6.5 (or above) with no single element below 5.5 or equivalent.
