Data Scientists are essential in creating innovative data-driven solutions to business problems, often working with complex, unstructured data sets. The UK National Data Strategy highlights the need for those with qualifications in Data Science technology. This BSc programme prepares students for various careers in Big Data and Data Science, including technical, management, and leadership opportunities. Students will develop and test data science applications for business intelligence, programme with SQL, MySQL, Python, R language, and deploy distributed machine learning models using cloud-based platforms like Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or AWS. The programme also exposes students to in-depth concepts, principles, technologies, and techniques of big data analytics. Teaching and assessment will involve lectures, workshops, lab sessions, seminars, tutorials, case studies, guest/expert input, and task-based learning. The course is taught by experienced lecturers and academics, with technology-enhanced learning (TEL) embedded throughout. Students will benefit from weekly academic support sessions and a guidance tutor at induction.

Please note:
For Level 5 and Level 6 entry you must provide evidence of a Level 2 Maths or equivalent. Exemptions are granted if you can evidence previous study in finance, accounting, statistics, data analysis or research modules at previous levels of study.
Applicants over the age of 21 without formal qualifications yet with appropriate work experience are also encouraged to apply for entry to level 4 or 5. Non-standard qualifications/work experience will need to be considered on an individual basis.
