Our innovative and unique MA Publishing masters course has been designed in collaboration with and will be delivered alongside one of the world's largest publishing houses, Hachette UK, and reading and writing development organisation, New Writing North.

This Publishing masters course is the first in the UK to offer students a guaranteed placement with a global publisher and the opportunity to work with New Writing North on live writing development project. Designed to address skills gaps within the publishing industry, our MA Publishing will give you the opportunity to explore all elements of the trade publishing landscape and benefit from cutting-edge industry-inspired learning.

Modules you will study on this Publishing masters include, Introduction to Publishing, Manuscript to Market, People in Publishing, Publishing Placement and Major Publishing Project. You will develop professional publishing practice through the year-long Publishing Placement and Major Publishing Project modules. These modules will help you develop the skills and knowledge you will need for a career in publishing, as well as allow you to graduate with a portfolio to show potential employers and engage in your own independent research project.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally have:

A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in any subject. Applicants with appropriate work experience and/or a relevant professional qualification will be considered.

English language requirements:

International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.5 in each component.

Course Details

  • This programme takes a student-centred approach to learning. You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminar and workshops in the classroom, one-to-one tutorials, and professional workplace supervisions as appropriate to the teaching content. You will be able to use online reading lists, and you are encouraged to use subject-specific, online library resources, electronic databases, and periodicals.
  • The MA Publishing is comprised of the core modules, Introduction to Publishing, Manuscript to Market, People in Publishing, Publishing Placement and Major Publishing Project only. This is to ensure that students gain the core skills and competencies required to meet the learning outcomes.
