If you have a passion for mathematics and quantitative finance, and want to use it to build a lucrative career within financial research, then this is the course for you.

Building on your undergraduate studies in a quantitative subject such as economics, accounting or engineering, this course provides a research-orientated approach to finance and investment. You will delve into specialist areas such as econometric's & forecasting, financial markets & institutions, and investments & risk management, and develop advanced analytical and evaluative skills.

The knowledge and experience that you will gain on this course will allow you to forge a successful research career. You can either progress within academia by continuing onto a PhD, or seek a position within the international financial sector as quantitative research analyst, where they are in high demand.  

If you are interested in a more general managerial career within the financial sector, and your undergraduate degree didn’t equip you for this specialist course, then you might be interested in MSc International Financial Management.

Entry Requirements

Standard Entry

The normal entry requirement is an honours degree (normally minimum lower second class) in accounting, economics, finance, mathematics, engineering or an equivalent professional qualification- e.g. CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CISI, CFA). Candidates with a business degree with good grounding in quantitative subjects will also be considered.

Plus one of the following:

  • International/English Language Requirements:

    International applicants are required to have one of the following English language qualifications with grades as shown below.

  • A British Council International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 5.5
  • Pearson Academic score of 62 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 51

Career Prospects

Course Details

  • The MSc in International Finance and Investment is designed to meet the needs of students who are at the beginning of a career in the field of finance. The aim of the course is to enable you to develop an integrated and critically aware understanding of international investment and finance and thus expand your career options by combining the knowledge from previous degree with a specialised Masters qualification.
  • The course will equip you with the specialised skills required to implement finance and econometric theory in areas such as quantitative analysis, financial research, international financial markets and institutions, investment, derivatives and risk management. The course is designed to build on the transferable skills important for employment in the areas of business finance, banking, financial markets, investment and quantitative finance research.
