Northumbria University's accredited masters in digital marketing is designed and delivered in collaboration with leading marketing professionals and is highly geared towards the needs of the digital marketing industry.

As the digital era develops and our reliance on digital technology increases, so does the need for marketing professionals to develop, innovative digital and online marketing strategies to ensure businesses remain competitive and implement successful digital marketing campaigns.

Our two year MSc Digital Marketing with advance practice focuses on developing a better understanding of the role digital marketing plays in contemporary marketing. The course focuses on the importance of marketing metrics, using analytic techniques to measure effectiveness.

Our Digital Marketing master's also addresses consumer behaviour and how profiling is used to understand lifestyle characteristics and how this helps deliver personalised, tailored communication. The master’s in digital marketing also covers themes such as location-based marketing, user experience, customer journey mapping and mobile marketing.

Entry Requirements

Standard Entry

You should hold a first degree in any discipline (the normal entry requirement is a honours degree, minimum lower second class), whilst others are welcome to apply because of their relevant work experience.  You must have a clear commitment to a professional career in the marketing profession, particularly in its digital areas of application.

International/English Language Requirements:

International applicants are required to have one of the following English language qualifications with grades as shown below.

  • A British Council International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 5.5
  • Pearson Academic score of 62 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 51

Course Details

  • You will learn through a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops combining theory with case studies and examples. Guest lectures from visiting professionals will support your learning and industry practitioners will set live project briefs and offer personal feedback.
  • Given the ever-changing nature of the digital marketing field, you will be encouraged to innovate and apply emerging technologies to solve business problems.
  • During the second year you will have the opportunity to undertake an internship or consultancy project for a whole semester. You will follow this up with an Applied Management Work Investigation Report that will critically analyse an issue related to your practical experience. The main assessment method will be via individual assignments and business reports where you’ll be expected to take a deep and critical approach and demonstrate your ability to think widely about the issues presented.
