During this Accounting and Finance master's you'll assess and apply key technical accounting and finance procedures to real-world scenarios, gaining a thorough understanding of global financial markets and accounting systems. You’ll cover topics such as financial planning, corporate reporting and analysis, financial management, auditing, corporate governance, business ethics and international markets.

A key feature of this course is the integration of accounting and finance modules throughout the taught programme. You will critically evaluate the introduction of technology such as big data, blockchain and the digitalisation of corporate reporting within the Accounting profession.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally have:

A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in any discipline, or substantial experience of working in a business organisation. It is recommended that your previous studies have included quantitative elements.

English Language Requirements:

International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*). The University accepts a large number of UK and International Qualifications in place of IELTS.

Course Details

Northumbria University’s Accounting and Finance Masters will be delivered through a mixture of lectures, seminars, IT workshops, and one-to-one sessions. From the outset, you will apply academic knowledge to practical exercises, case discussions, and group-work sessions based on real-life examples. You will also benefit from guest lectures to provide opportunities to engage with the industry.

There will be the opportunity to visit a Chartered Accountancy firm and become familiar with the professional services these firms provide, such as; payroll, consultation, and auditing. You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning, demonstrated through directed learning tasks included in each module.

Assessment is varied, it will include written assignments, oral presentations and exams. You will also undertake a 15,000-word dissertation, consultancy project, or management inquiry. Our experienced staff will be assigned to you on an individual supervisor basis to support your chosen topic.
