Entry Requirements

  • We welcome applications from graduates with a 2:2 honours degree, or equivalent qualification, in an appropriate subject such as Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Statistics, Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences and Biosciences degrees. Other degrees with sciences and/or a statistics component will also be considered
  • We also welcome applications from candidates with a minimum of three years' work experience in public health related senior positions.
  • Evidence of significant study during the last five years is required
  • The most commonly accepted evidence of English language ability is IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all components) or TOEFL paper based 575 (no less than 4.5 in test of written English) or TOEFL internet based 90 (with no less than 19 in each component).

Course Details

The MSc Public Health course offers comprehensive training in public health as an academic and professional discipline. It covers cultural, social, economic, lifestyle, and environmental factors affecting people's health, as well as methods of controlling disease and promoting health. The curriculum also explores economic, legal, and ethical aspects of public health.
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to critically analyze and appraise good practice in public health management, select appropriate approaches for investigating public health needs and interventions, reflect on their own practice, evaluate national, community, and individual public health concerns, identify and analyze ethical challenges, consider the role of partnership within and external to organizations, critically evaluate academic investigations, and plan, undertake, and synthesize research in public health to benefit the population.
Optional modules are available at levels 5 and 6, but not on every course. Students will be asked to make their choice during the previous academic year. If an optional module is not offered, the programme team will advise students after the selection period or at the earliest time of the decision not to run the module and help them choose an alternative module.
