The course has been designed to include 120 days of school experience across the training year. We have excellent relationships with schools across London and the surrounding area. The nature of the course allows you to return to University to reflect on your practical application.

Entry Requirements

  • For PGCE Primary, you will need a 2.2 Hons degree or above
  • Degrees in all subjects are considered.
  • Additionally you must have GCSE grade C / grade 4 or above in English language, mathematics and science (or equivalent). We also accept the equivalency tests by Equivalency Testing, A Star Teachers or any other appropriately accredited provider. We cannot accept functional skills or key skills or IELTS

Course Details

The PGCE Primary Education (QTS) program offers 120 days of school-based training, providing opportunities to teach across the 5-11 age range. Initially, participants will assist class teachers and take responsibility for classes in partnership schools. The remaining 60 days are university-based, providing lectures, seminars, and practical workshops in a blended learning environment. The program is regularly reviewed and updated to ensure the best learning experience. The assessment process is based on coursework and school-based modules against Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) standards. The course is designed for teachers employed in a school setting and aims to adapt teaching strategies and approaches to their settings. Teaching and learning will be built around on-campus sessions using professional facilities, with online sessions for some activities. Technology will be used to enhance learning and provide access to online resources. Delivery may differ in light of block teaching requirements. The course is designed for teachers (training and ECTs) who want to study for a postgraduate qualification. The assignments and workload are designed to complement professional practice and fit alongside employment responsibilities. Terms of the program include live in-person on-campus learning, live online learning, and tutor set learning activities. Independent study is also expected outside of these hours.
