Dr Sara Hourani, Senior Lecturer in Law, specialises in International Commercial Law, with a focus on the interface between international commercial arbitration and new technologies, spanning digital and online dispute resolution, with a particular interest in blockchain and smart contract arbitration.

Dr Mariette Jones, Senior Lecturer in Law, has research interests in corporate governance and corporate responsibility, civil liability and tort, as well as comparative law.

Dr Hamisi Junior Nsubuga, Senior Lecturer in Law, focuses on corporate law, international business law, comparative insolvency law (UK, USA and emerging economies) and banking and financial law and regulations and is a member of the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency, and Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL International) and the Commercial Law Reform Network Nigeria.

Dr Eneless Nyoni, Lecturer in Law, has a background in contract law, global trade law, the World Trade Organisation, and international trade law.

Dr Eliza Watt, Senior Lecturer in Law, specialises in cyber law, in particular cyber surveillance, privacy and data protection, as well as cyber security, cyber espionage, cybercrime, internet governance, international sale of goods law, commercial law, and international commercial arbitration.

Entry Requirements

  • The University's standard entry requirement consists of a Law degree at 2:2 or Graduate Diploma in Law/CPE
  • Graduates in related disciplines, with law minors or with relevant professional experience or qualifications may be admitted subject to the programme leader's discretion
  • The most commonly accepted evidence of English language ability is IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all components).

Career Prospects

The LLM/PGDip/PGCert Commercial Law programme is designed for students interested in law, court-based litigation, and dispute resolution. It offers in-house legal departments and external legal representation for companies and organizations. Students can also pursue alternative dispute resolution roles as arbitrators, counsel, or businesses seeking assistance from ADR service providers. The programme offers specialist advice, career-focused workshops, skills sessions, and events. Course Details

The LLM/PGDip/PGCert Commercial Law program offers four core modules, two optional modules, and a Dissertation period in term three. The full-time LLM program consists of 180 credits, while the part-time LLM program consists of 120 credits. The program consists of two modules in term one and two, and three modules in term two. The part-time PG Diploma program consists of 120 credits, with four core modules and two optional modules.
In Year 1, students will study two modules in term one and two modules in term two. In Year 2, they can choose to study two modules in term one or one module in term one and one module in term two. The PG Certificate program requires 60 credits, with Legal Research Skills being taken in term one, plus two optional modules.
Modules are worth 20 credits, except for the Dissertation and Work Integrated Learning modules, which are worth 60 credits each. The Work Integrated Learning module may be chosen to replace the Dissertation with prior agreement. Students can also study one of the following modules from international politics, criminology, or sociology in either term one or two: Sustainable Development and Human Rights; Environmental Law and Governance; Migration Theories and Approaches; and Politics of Globalisation.
