This accredited postgraduate course is for those wishing to further their careers in client organizations or consultancy. It allows aspiring professionals to network with other ambitious and successful people within the construction and development industries.

You'll focus on both practical and theoretical aspects of management in organizational and project-based contexts. Management subjects are supplemented by advanced financial appraisal techniques and finance, law is specifically related to construction and development.

We offer different course options, depending on your circumstances: 

  • Cognate version:

     

    If you hold an undergraduate degree in a Surveying subject or corporate membership of a professional body concerned with property or construction, you should apply for the ‘Surveying graduates route as you will study fewer modules; your previous study will be taken into account.
  • Non-Cognate version: If you do not hold an undergraduate degree in a Surveying subject, you should apply for our ‘Conversion’ course. Three supplementary modules at the beginning of the course bring you up to speed about Project Management, Construction, and Institutional & Legal Context for Construction before you embark on the master's level modules. These supplementary modules are a distinguishing feature of the course and are highly valued by students and their employers. There is a higher fee for this course because you will be studying more credits.

Entry Requirements

You should normally have one of the following qualifications:

  • 2:1 degree or above in a discipline relevant to the Built Environment, for example Estate Management, Quantity or Building Surveying, Building, Architecture, Town Planning, Housing or related discipline; or
  • Corporate membership of a professional body concerned with property or construction, for example, RICS, CIOB, RIBA, RTPI, CIOH, or other relevant body of equal standing; or
  • A qualification regarded as equivalent to the above; or
  • A good Honours degree in a non-construction subject and some experience in the construction and development fields.

Career Prospects

Employment prospects are excellent. Successful students enter a variety of roles in client organisations, professional practices, local authorities, housing associations and major contracting companies.

On the course you'll develop of a number of transferable skills in oral and written communications, analytic thinking and research skills, as well as advanced IT.

The department has recently set up a Building Information Modelling (BIM) Centre to provide a research and enterprise facility linking the University with industry. It is designed to foster knowledge creation and exchange in BIM by connecting staff and students with practitioners in an increasingly interdisciplinary world.

The PgDip Construction Project Management is fully accredited by the Association for Project Management, the MSc is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building, and the RICS Project Management Faculty is fully accredited.
