Sport Performance & Coaching Foundation Year

The foundation year course in Sport Performance & Coaching has been designed to prepare you for contemporary undergraduate sport courses.

On successful completion of this foundation year you will have the opportunity to progress to undergraduate study by completing one year of preparatory work, with the aim of building your confidence and developing your academic and professional skills.

As you progress through the programme you will have the opportunity to be at the cutting edge of sport performance knowledge and practice and should be well prepared for your next steps in sport education.This exciting new course focuses on providing foundation level knowledge, skills and experience including introduction to anatomy and physiology, sport coaching, sport performance and academic and professional skills for sport.

Entry Requirements

Sport Performance & Coaching Foundation Year:

40 UCAS tariff points. All Foundation courses require 5 GCSEs at A-C including Maths and English, and at least one A2 level or a BTEC equivalent qualification.

The progression pathways envisaged after successful completion of the foundation year include (but are not exhaustive): Sport Coaching, Sport Development, Sport Performance, Strength & Conditioning, Sport & Exercise Science, Exercise, Health & Wellbeing, Sport, Physical Activity and Health & Sport Therapy.

The strength of the course lies in preparing students, who are looking for an alternative to a traditional university experience, for progression on to a related degree course within CU or at other institutions.

Course Details

The course aims to help students develop an independent, reflective and self-managed approach to using skills appropriate to successful academic integrity. It also aims to provide a toolkit of skills required for a pursuance of further study in this field.
