Take our virtual tour

This course aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the technical operation of the petroleum industry, together with some of the sector’s most important environmental issues – such as oil spillages, climate change and renewable energies.

Course content has been developed in collaboration with our Industry Liaison Panel, which currently includes long-standing members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Our current extensive links enable us to offer a programme of expert speakers through the free to attend oil and gas seminar series, which has previously featured the former Vice President of BP (Engineering), Honorary Guests from Imperial College London and a former President of SPE International. Our connections have also led to the donation by Schlumberger of industry standard PETREL and ECLIPSE reservoir simulation software, worth US$15 million, giving you access to the same technology used by big multinational oil companies like Shell, BP and ExxonMobil.

Work placement option

This master's programme provides you with the additional option to apply for a 'work placement' opportunity during your first semester with us. The 'work placement', which if secured, is designed to further develop your skills, knowledge and professional experience with the aim of maximising your employability prospects. Please note that the optional placement modules incur an additional tuition fee of £4,000. Find out more about the work placement pathway.

Please note that we are unable to guarantee any placement or study abroad opportunities and that any such opportunities referred to on this webpage may be subject to additional costs (e.g. travel, visas and accommodation etc.), competitive application, availability and/or meeting any applicable visa requirements. To ensure that you fully understand the requirements in this regard, please contact the International Office for further details if you are an EU or International student.
