Canterbury Christ Church University - LL.B Law with Finance with Foundation Year

Canterbury Christ Church University

LL.B Law with Finance with Foundation Year

An alternative approach to gaining a qualifying Law degree is to study on one of our ‘Law with’ degrees. These share the same core Law components as the LLB Single Honours but allow you to study another subject alongside Law to gain different insights and experience to build your own career pathway.

The foundation year helps you develop the study skills and self-confidence needed for higher education when you don’t reach the entry requirements for your subject or you need a grounding in a new subject area. On successful completion of the foundation year, you will join Year 1 of the LLB (Hons) Law with Finance degree.

On this course you will join a challenging, vibrant and friendly community, led by an experienced team of academics, practitioners, solicitors, barristers and international lawyers.

Your Qualifying Law degree will enable you to progress to the vocational stage of lawyer’s training, to qualify as either a solicitor or barrister. This original and innovative course has been designed in consultation with senior managers to give you both a theoretical and practical experience.

As part of your degree, you will have the option to get involved with practical justice including opportunities to shadow a local judge and experience live mediations from our in-house Mediation Clinic. Through our strong links with the local community, Citizens Advice, and local courts, you will have the opportunity to act as a Community Legal Companion for unrepresented parties at court. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain hands-on work experience in a legal setting.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally have 32 UCAS Tariff points. We will also welcome applications from students with few or no formal Level 3 qualifications who wish to return to education and applicants may be asked to attend an interview.

Career Prospects

In addition to all our LLB degrees being Qualifying Law Degrees, we have designed our degrees in consultation with external stakeholders, such as local law practitioners as well as a range of local organisations. This ensures we help you to develop the skills which are highly valued by employers, with examples including written and verbal communication, initiative, time management, flexibility and teamwork. Many graduates use these skills to become a barrister or solicitor, but others establish careers in education, public services, HRM, management, as paralegals, chartered secretaries or in financial services.

This qualification can also be used to progress on to postgraduate study in law, such as an LLM, or in related areas such as management, marketing and accountancy.
