Train to be a physiotherapist and help empower individuals to achieve their maximal quality of life by restoring, maintaining and improving function and movement.

Our course will prepare you to become an effective, safe physiotherapist. You will be able to work flexibly in the changing contexts of health and social care, applying leadership and technology skills that you have learnt with us and our practice and community partners.

You will have several opportunities to take your learning into practice, initially in our practical and simulation facilities and then on practice placement. You will be encouraged to understand the journey of service users, their carers, family and friends.

Entry Requirements

GCSE English language and mathematics, at grade C/new grade 4 or above, or equivalent.

A typical offer would be ABB at A2 Level or level 3 equivalent, and should include at least one of the following subjects: biology, human biology, anatomy & physiology, sports science.

Offers of a place can only be made after a successful interview, and are subject to a satisfactory reference, health clearance and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Canterbury Christ Church University has a national reputation for medical ultrasound imaging and a very successful interprofessional Postgraduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound imaging which you may find a useful for your future studies and practice.

Course Details

Throughout the course, you'll gain skills to assess and care for people who have a wide variety of healthcare needs and learn about the importance of person-centred care. You'll also develop the qualities you need to become a leader in the physiotherapy profession and to contribute to service improvement.

You'll learn from a variety of sources including guidelines, research evidence, clinical reasoning, and the skills, values and professional behaviours that underpin physiotherapy practice.

You will explore areas including:

  • body structure and function
  • health and wellbeing assessment and promotion
  • clinical reasoning and decision making
  • therapeutic intervention and exercise prescription
  • innovation and entrepreneurship.

As well as your time spent studying in the University, you'll complete a minimum of 1000 hours in practice placements where you'll be supported by professionals who will help you become a confident and capable physiotherapist able to work in different situations and settings. 

As you progress through the course and develop your skills and knowledge, you'll become increasingly autonomous. During your third year, you'll have the opportunity to complete a two-week international physiotherapy experience, or to experience physiotherapy in a different healthcare or wellbeing setting in the UK.

Physiotherapy practice is evolving and our course includes an introduction to musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning and the use and development of assistive technologies. We work closely with clinicians who have expertise in assistive technologies and supporting service users in their use.

Although the course is primarily based at our Medway campus, you will also use the new Anatomy Learning Centre at the Canterbury campus.
