Bournemouth University

BSc (Hons) Midwifery (with Foundation Year option)

What could be more rewarding than assisting women in bringing new life into the world? This course, accredited by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative, will allow you to do just that. You can study at either our Bournemouth or Portsmouth campuses.
The course emphasizes women-centered care and provides an equal balance of theory and practice.
50% of the course will be spent in practice placements, both in the community and in hospitals, where you will learn from your interactions with women, families, midwives, and other health professionals.
You'll be introduced to new equipment and skills in our simulation facilities, which include a birthing suite where you can practice techniques before going into practice.

Foundation Year: For UK students who do not meet the entry requirements for the degree course, we offer a Foundation Year option. This extra year of study will provide you with a solid foundation in the scientific skills required to prepare you for the Midwifery degree, as well as boost your confidence, knowledge, and skills for further study. After completing the Foundation Year, you will progress to the full degree program and begin your Midwifery studies. The Foundation Year will take place at Bournemouth's Talbot Campus. If you want to study at the Portsmouth Campus, you will have the option to do so after completing the foundation year in Bournemouth.
