This course, which is accredited by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), will prepare you to become a caring and compassionate professional who provides quality care to children and young people. Caring for children and adolescents is a demanding but rewarding profession. You will work closely with children, adolescents, and their families, ranging from newborns to adolescents.
Focused on the healthcare needs of children and young people, this course will teach you the theory, diagnostic and practical skills needed to care for children and young people. We're proud that 100% of our graduates thought our staff did a good job of explaining things.
50% of the course is spent on practice placements to gain nursing experience in a variety of settings such as schools, pediatric hospital wards, and community settings such as children's hospices.

Accreditation

Accredited by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), this course will prepare you to be eligible to register and practice as a registered (children's and young people's) nurse and to graduate with a BSc (Hons) Children's & Young People's Nursing award.

Entry Requirements

  • 112-128 UCAS tariff points including 2 A-levels or equivalent. BTEC Extended Diploma: DMM.

  • GCSE English Language or English Literature and Mathematics grade 4 (or grade C in the old grading system). We also accept iGCSEs, Key Skills, and Functional Skills, and other qualifications at Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework.

  • 102–118 UCAS tariff points with any combination of Distinction, Merit, And Pass grades.

  • IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, or equivalent.

There is a lot of scope to develop an exciting and varied career with this degree.
Although the NHS is the most obvious employer, there are numerous other opportunities in the private sector, as well as roles focusing on community nursing services for children and young people. Many of the jobs available after graduation offer excellent career advancement.

The BSc (Hons) Children's & Young People's Nursing course is part of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences' Nursing Framework, which also includes BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing and BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing courses with advanced standing.
We have developed this course as part of a co-ordinated suite of nursing courses to enhance student learning and prepare you for practice.
Our approach to interprofessional education entails students participating in shared workshops, lectures, and learning events with other students enrolled in health-related courses throughout the course.
