This Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)-accredited course combines theory with real-world experience to help you develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to register and practice as an adult nurse. Grow into a compassionate, knowledgeable, competent, and self-assured graduate nurse capable of providing and leading high-quality, person-centered care in a variety of healthcare settings.

Half of the course is spent on practicums to gain practical nursing experience in a variety of settings such as hospitals, community homes, private clinics, and community nursing teams.
This course was created in collaboration with practice partners, service users, and caregivers, and you will learn from experienced registered nurses and other healthcare practitioners.

Foundation Year: For UK students who do not meet the entry requirements for the degree course, we offer a Foundation Year option. This extra year of study will provide you with a solid foundation in the scientific skills required to prepare you for the Adult Nursing degree, as well as boost your confidence, knowledge, and skills for further study. After completing the Foundation Year successfully, you will progress to the full degree and begin your Adult Nursing studies. The Foundation Year will take place at Bournemouth's Talbot Campus. If you want to study at the Yeovil Campus, you will have the option to do so after completing the Foundation Year in Bournemouth.

Entry Requirements

  • 104 - 120 tariff points including a minimum of 2 A-levels or equivalent. BTEC Extended Diploma: DMM.

     

  • Foundation Year

    : 48-72 UCAS tariff points. A combination of academic and experiential learning to be considered on its individual merits.

  • GCSE English Language or English Literature and Mathematics grade 4 (or grade C in the old grading system). We also accept iGCSEs, Key Skills, and Functional Skills, and other qualifications at Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework.

    102–118 UCAS tariff points with any combination of Distinction, Merit, And Pass grades.

  • IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, or equivalent.

When you complete your course, you will have the practical skills and knowledge required to work in a variety of organizations, such as the NHS, in both hospital and community settings, or in the private/independent healthcare sector, such as nursing homes or private hospitals.
95% of our students are working or continuing their education within fifteen months of finishing their course.

The roles available are diverse, and the majority offer excellent career progression opportunities, leading to positions such as advanced nurse practitioner and consultant nurse. Among the jobs you can pursue are:

Course Details

This course places a strong emphasis on practical learning, with work placements accounting for 50% of your time and theory, practical skills sessions, and independent learning accounting for the remaining time.
The BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing course is part of the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences Nursing Framework, which also includes the BSc (Hons) Children and Young People's Nursing and BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing courses, all of which have advanced standing options. The adult nursing course is part of a coordinated suite of nursing courses designed to improve student learning and prepare you for practice. Our approach to interprofessional education entails students participating in shared workshops, lectures, and learning events with students from other nursing courses and other health-related courses within the faculty throughout the course. As an adult nursing student, you will be taught by lecturers with specific adult nursing experience and will be taught in groups with other adult nursing students, ensuring that your learning is tailored and specific to your chosen field of expertise. Your placements and assessments will be field-specific as well. You will also benefit from regular guest lectures from local healthcare services, as well as workshops led by service users (patients and caregivers) who are also members of the teaching team.
