This popular course provides a solid foundation for the study of human societies from around the world, both past and present. The emphasis of this course is on human history and prehistoric perspectives. Develop a thorough understanding of the diversity and richness of modern and historical human societies around the world. Along with specialist units, you'll gain a thorough understanding of the practical aspects of archaeology and anthropology by working in cutting-edge labs and the field.
You can specialize in social or biological sciences, anthropology, or archaeology, or you can study elements of all of these disciplines.
Participate in a five- or 30-week work placement at home or abroad. It's an excellent way to gain the experience and contacts you'll need to find work after graduation.

Course accreditation

This course is among the first to receive joint accreditation from the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA), the leading professional body representing archaeologists working in the UK and overseas, and the University Archaeology UK group (UK). Choosing an accredited degree is widely recognized as the first step on a career path leading to professional status.

Entry Requirements

  • GCSE English Language or English Literature and Mathematics grade 4 (or grade C in the old grading system). We also accept iGCSEs, Key Skill Functional Skill, ls, and other qualifications at Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework.
  • 104–120 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of two A-levels.
  • 102–118 UCAS tariff points with any combination of Distinction, Manditt, and Pass grades.
  • IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in either reading or writing and 5.5 in all other components, or equivalent.

Archaeologists are in high demand, and the profession has been added to the government's list of skilled occupation shortages. 90% of our students are employed or pursuing further education within fifteen months of completing the course.
