Landscape Architecture is the design of the world outside, as a combination of art, utility and natural systems. The aim is to create rich, positive experiences and to provide designed environments, which engage users with character and a sense of place. Through guided exploration of personal design and research process, you will explore and unwrap many layers to reveal the unlimited storyboard of design options that our landscape presents.

Entry Requirements

Essential Requirement: 

  • 112 UCAS tariff points from A/AS Level with a minimum of 2 A Levels.

IELTS: 

  • 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in each band.

Career Prospects

The BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture course aims to enhance employability skills by providing a comprehensive portfolio of design practice and academic study skills. Students will gain experience in live local sites with client-driven briefs in landscape studios, hone their design creativity, and develop transferable skills such as communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and planning. Daniela Teleku completed a work placement at Fira, a nationally recognized practice of landscape architects, urban designers, master planners, and architects. She gained experience in various project stages, including detailed design for construction, conceptual and innovative design for a new play area in a historic park, materials selection, and a site visit at the University of Birmingham Hotel and Conference Centre. Additionally, she built a 3D Revit model for a mental health project. The course supports student employability and long-term career opportunities.

Course Details

This year's course covers a wide range of study areas, connecting abstract design theory and global scale contexts to micro-scale understanding of materials and technology. The goal is to gain a deeper understanding of landscape architecture's transformative abilities and power to ensure a global human future. To complete the course, 120 credits must be completed in CORE modules. In the second year, students will develop professional approaches to design and construction, connecting key design theories with real-world practice through debate, placement study, collaborative projects, and exploration of multifaceted design processes. The course is assessed on 100% course work, ensuring it mirrors the way students would work in the real world and better prepares them for a career in the landscape design industry.
The course offers an extensive resource base, including digital studios, 3D design workshops, traditional drawing workshops, and digital visual communication skills. Students will develop a strong portfolio and confidence in design principles and communication. The course follows a clear development path, with three years of coursework: Year One, Year Two, and Year Three. Classroom activities include design studios, study trips, workshops, and industry-aligned courses, supported by collaborations with external partners and real projects.
