In the UK, the construction industry employs over two million people and there’s never been a better time to gain exposure to every aspect of the built environment in Birmingham, as it is currently undergoing a huge and exciting regeneration period.

You will learn about the immediate and long-lasting effect which construction activities have on the environment, and discover sustainable and environmentally sound construction methods and innovative management practices. This course has social innovation embedded in its core. You will learn through creative social problem solving, working with our industrial partners to develop your intellectual and practical competence, as required by professional bodies such as CIOB and RICS.

Entry Requirements

Essential Requirements:

112 UCAS tariff points from A/AS Level

GCSE: 

  • GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C/4 or above
  • Equivalent level 2 qualifications can be accepted
  • Must have been achieved at the point of enrolment

Career Prospects

The course equips students with the necessary skills and competencies to excel in construction management. It covers various aspects of construction technology, innovation, safety, sustainability, leadership, and planning for various building and civil engineering projects. Students will manage complex projects from an operational perspective, utilizing problem-solving abilities. They will also gain a strong understanding of legal implications, financial issues, and global economic aspects. In addition to technical skills, students will develop interpersonal skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
The course addresses a skills shortage in skilled construction managers, with a high demand for this qualification. Visits to construction sites will provide a contextual understanding of theory.

Course Details

This programme utilizes various assessment methods to address individual module needs, including essay, portfolio, individual/group presentation, and dissertation. Feedback and support will be provided through Moodle, email, and group/1-2-1 tutorial. A personal tutor and dissertation supervisor will be assigned to each student for tailored support. Other support at university, faculty, school, and programme level is available, such as the BCU library, student support tutor, Centre for Academic Success, EDS, SAP, and Graduate+. The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and other organizations.
Accreditations are renewed in accordance with the accreditor's standard review process, subject to the University maintaining high standards of course delivery. Site visits with professional partners, such as Taylor Wimpey, CBRe, Cushman and Wakefield, and RICS, are also available to enhance students' studies.
