BA (Hons) International Finance and Business

This is a career-focused practical course, which will appeal to those with an understanding and exploring how organisations compete and co-operate around the world. The programme is designed to extend the knowledge gained during your two-year higher education degrees or diplomas and would help you prepare for an International career or a Master’s programme.

The Business modules give you a broad understanding of business concepts, models and issues, with a focus on leadership and innovation. The Finance modules develop your analytical and problem solving skills in areas such as risk management, banking system and financial markets.

Entry Requirements

This is a top-up programme. We welcome applications from students with non-standard qualifications and recognise all international qualifications equivalent to HND.

International students: If English is not your first language, we require an English language level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

Our innovative international experience programme DMU Global aims to enrich your studies and expand your cultural horizons, helping you to become a global graduate, equipped to meet the needs of employers across the world.

Through DMU Global, we offer a wide range of opportunities including on-campus and UK-based activities, overseas study, internships, faculty-led field trips and volunteering, as well as Erasmus+ and international exchanges.

While overseas DMU Global opportunities are not currently possible, DMU will continue to review government advice and if travel is permitted, we hope to offer a small number of extra-curricular opportunities in the summer of 2021. 

Placements

An optional paid placement year offers invaluable professional experience.

We can help you secure a placement through activities such as mock interviews and practice aptitude tests, and you will be assigned a personal tutor to support you throughout your placement.

We advertise posts in all locations in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, including some international posts.

Our students have taken placements with companies including Warner Bros, IBM, DHL and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Graduate careers

This course develops graduates with the skills and knowledge to respond to the impact of globalisation on business.

As such, it produces highly employable graduates who are sought after by companies that need an international understanding of business.

Recent graduates have gone onto positions such Business Analyst at Capita, Supply Manager at Cummins, General Management Graduate at Network Rail and Business Process and Design Analyst at Vodafone.

Course Details

This is a full-time course and in total you should be prepared to devote approximately 38 hours a week to your studies. You will typically have up to 14 contact hours of teaching most weeks. Teaching is through a mix of lectures, tutorials, seminars and lab sessions and the breakdown of these activity types is shown in each module description.

Other: In addition each module provides a two hour surgery each week for individual consultation with the lecturer. You will also have timetabled meetings with your personal tutor and careers and/or subject meetings scheduled throughout the year.

Self-directed study: In order to prepare for, and assimilate, the work in lectures and seminars you will be expected to use our on-line resources, participate in flipped or virtual classroom discussions on our virtual learning environment (VLE) and engage in personal study and revision for approximately 25 hours per week.
