BA (Hons) Business Management

This highly practical course gives you an excellent grounding in how businesses are run and managed. You’ll develop vital employability and communication skills, explore creative ideas, and gain a deep awareness of business.

You can tailor your degree to reflect your interests and career ambitions by specializing in topics such as accounting and finance, human resource management, and marketing.

The modules we offer are continually reviewed, considering contemporary issues, to make sure you are equipped with the knowledge and skills that employers need – such as our Business and Sustainability module, which covers sustainability challenges and explores how managers can successfully balance their economic, social and environmental impacts.

A Business Management degree at DMU can open up an exciting career path in a wide range of areas. Previous graduates from this degree have gone on to successful careers in world-renowned organisations, including Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Caterpillar, HP and The Body Shop.

Entry Requirements

  • A typical offer is 112 UCAS points. You need to study at least two subjects at A Level or equivalent (eg BTEC)

Plus, five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Maths

Alternative qualifications include:

  • Pass Access with 30 Level 3 credits at Merit (or equivalent)

English (Language or Literature) and Maths GCSE are required as separate qualifications in grade 4

We will normally require students to have had a break from full-time education before undertaking the Access course

  • International Baccalaureate: 26+ Points
  • If English is not your first language, an IELTS core of 6.0 (including a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent is normally required.

As part of this course you will have the option to complete a paid placement year which offers invaluable professional experience.

Our students have taken placements with companies including BMW, Rolls Royce, Triumph, Warner Bros, Walt Disney and Nike.

Our exciting careers programme DMU Works can help you secure a placement through activities such as mock interviews and practice aptitude tests, and you will be assigned a personal tutor to support you throughout your placement.

This is our innovative international experience programme which aims to enrich your studies and expand your cultural horizons – helping you to become a global graduate, equipped to meet the needs of employers across the world.

Through DMU Global, we offer a wide range of opportunities including on-campus and UK activities, overseas study, internships, faculty-led field trips and volunteering, as well as Erasmus+ and international exchanges.

Business Management has a strong international focus: you learn about global business issues, International Marketing and global strategic management and are tutored by a diverse set of people. Students have taken opportunities to visit Hong Kong, Berlin, San Diego and New York.

A degree in Business Management opens up a wide range of career opportunities as you develop a broad base of skills that are in great demand with employers.

You may choose to specialise in a discipline that you enjoyed studying on the programme.

Recent graduates have progressed onto roles such as Operations Analyst at Goldman Sachs, General Management Graduate at Network Rail and Business Process and Design Analyst at Vodafone.

Business Management student and entrepreneur Merissa Gidden achieved her goal of working with Goldman Sachs - while still studying at DMU. Merissa received a graduate job offer before returning to campus for her final year.

Course Details

This is a full-time course and in total you should be prepared to devote approximately 38 hours a week to your studies. In the first year, you will typically have up to 14 contact hours of teaching most weeks. Teaching is through a mix of lectures, tutorials, seminars and lab sessions and the breakdown of these activity types is shown in each module description.

Other: In addition each module provides a two hour surgery each week for individual consultation with the lecturer. You will also have timetabled meetings with your personal tutor and careers and/or subject meetings scheduled throughout the year.

Self-directed study: In order to prepare for, and assimilate, the work in lectures and seminars you will be expected to use our on-line resources, participate in flipped or virtual classroom discussions on our virtual learning environment (VLE) and engage in personal study and revision for approximately 25 hours per week.

Subsequent years follow a similar pattern, however, the contact time will vary depending on your subject mix and options chosen, and the teaching methods appropriate to the module. Further details are contained in each module description.
